Grapes grow in clusters on vines. Jesus wants his followers to know that like grapes, Christians grow in churches that are connected to him through the Holy Spirit. Previous experience with vineyards are not necessary to understand the illustration as John records the story:
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
Let’s intentionally learn God’s word. There are 52 scriptures in this document. There are 52 weeks in a year. The goal is to memorize one passage each week. They’re in Biblical order, but can be randomized by drawing numbers available on the back page of this document. Three additional longer passages for any upcoming road trips. The selections are from the 2011 New International Version and come from multiple adolescent Sunday school curriculum sources.
